A Simple Model of a Limit Order Book
نویسندگان
چکیده
We formulate a simplified model of a limit order book, in which the arrival process is independent of the current state. We prove a phase transition result: there exist prices κb and κa such that, for any > 0, only finitely many bid (ask) departures occur at prices below κb− (above κa + ), while the interval (κb + , κa − ) infinitely often contains no bids, and infinitely often contains no asks. We derive expressions for κb and κa, which we solve in the case of uniform arrivals. We conjecture the positive recurrence of a modified model, and find the steady-state distribution of the highest bid and of the lowest ask assuming the positive recurrence.

Transparency & Quality: The Impact of Increasing Limit Order Book levels on Tehran Stock Exchange
Objective: One of the common tools used to make pre-trade transparency in financial markets is the Limit Order Book. In spite of several researches on the Limit Order Book, there is no consensus about the impact of increasing pre-trade transparency on market quality. Increasing the number of Limit Order Book levels from 3 to 5 levels, in May 2017, for online traders in Tehran Stock Exchange, ga...
متن کاملArbitrage-Free Limit Order Markets and the Pricing of Order Flow Risk*
This paper builds on the landmark contribution of Glosten (1994) by treating the determination of limit order supply schedules as an exercise in asset pricing theory with the possible sizes of incoming market orders as the value-relevant states of nature, yielding an analogue of the Fundamental Theorem of Asset Pricing. State prices and price impact prove to be proportional to the slope of the ...
متن کاملA Stochastic Model for Order Book Dynamics
We propose a stochastic model for the continuous-time dynamics of a limit order book. The model strikes a balance between two desirable features: it captures key empirical properties of order book dynamics and its analytical tractability allows for fast computation of various quantities of interest without resorting to simulation. We describe a simple parameter estimation procedure based on hig...
متن کاملScaling Limit of a Limit Order Book Model via the Regenerative Characterization of Lévy Trees
We consider the following Markovian dynamic on point processes: at constant rate and with equal probability, either the rightmost atom of the current configuration is removed, or a new atom is added at a random distance from the rightmost atom. Interpreting atoms as limit buy orders, this process was introduced by Lakner et al. [23] to model a one-sided limit order book. We consider this model ...
متن کاملThe order book as a queueing system: average depth and influence of the size of limit orders
In this paper, we study the analytical properties of a one-side order book model in which the flows of limit and market orders are Poisson processes and the distribution of lifetimes of cancelled orders is exponential. Although simplistic, the model provides an analytical tractability that should not be overlooked. Using basic results for birth-and-death processes, we build an analytical formul...
